The Zunyi Meeting marked a turning point in the Chinese revolution, changing its course at a critical moment. Yet few people know that a Vietnamese-born general, Hong Shui (known in Vietnam as Nguyen Son), marched alongside the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army. He fought in the Battle of Zunyi and crossed snow-covered mountains during the Long March. He later brought the spirit of the Long March back to Vietnam, carrying the revolutionary ideals he had embraced in China across national borders.
For the first time, Ha Thi Tuong Thu, Hong Shui’s granddaughter and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Pictorial, published by the Vietnam News Agency, visits Zunyi to retrace her grandfather’s footsteps.
In a cross-cultural dialogue, Wang Xiaohui, former Editor-in-Chief of China Internet Information Center, joins Ha Thi Tuong Thu to explore the history from both Chinese and Vietnamese perspectives. What did the Zunyi Meeting change? Its impact went beyond China, leaving a legacy that reached across borders and shaped the revolutionary history of another nation.
